SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL THAT WOULD MAKE A PERFECT MOTHERS DAY GIFT…. From CIDER IS WINE LTD, THE FINEST RANGE OF WORLD CIDERS cideriswine.co.uk
“Make me a child again, just for tonight” may be said to sum up just how profound the relationship is we have with our mothers – so it makes sense to make a bit of effort to show just how special she is.
A sleep in… breakfast in bed… and a gift that she will appreciate. Perhaps a gift of a flower-arranging, cooking, painting or photography class. Or a special treat she can enjoy at lunch and dinner, something to make it really special… something she can share, too, like a gift of fabulous ciders made like wine.
We’ve chosen 4 ciders made like wine from 100% fruit without any concentrates, shown below, that we think are particularly suitable for the occasion (out of of over 60 in the range of ciders we sell) with the view that, even in these most difficult times and with the strong possibility that restrictions as to who can meet together on the day, sons and daughters can buy a couple of bottles and taste together with their mothers – virtually and safely – no matter where anyone is based. In these days of social distancing, this line from a poem might be said to strike something of a chord: “Mother, come back from the echoless shore, take me again to your heart as of yore”.
Long Brothers Apple & Blueberry Co-Ferment Cider 75l
This lightly sparkling cider is a creative combination of Katie apples and hand-picked blueberries. The co-ferment is made from 100% fruit juice – 85% apple juice and 15% blueberry juice – using no concentrates whatsoever. The contact between the apples and blueberries is very short at only 5 days. After fermentation the cider is allowed to settle for 2 months before filtering and bottling.
Cidentro Rosé 2018 75cl
Inspired by Provence-style rosés , Cidentro’s rosé is an exciting cider made from 100% English apples with a dosage of Pinot Noir wine to create a dry and lightly sparkling rosé cider that’s ideal as an aperitif or paired with food.
Brännland Pernilla Perle 2017
Dry with a profile of apple clarity and tannins, with elegance and complexity. The balance between sugar, alcohol and fruit is joined by a length that holds great promise for future development and ageing.
Gospel Green Rosé 2017
Using the same technique as used when making Champagne, this cider reflects the Gospel Green house style of finesse and subtlety. First released in 2019 after cellar-ageing for a minimum of 18 months, and made from a blend of 20% cooking and 80% dessert apples, a dosage of Pinot Noir wine provides the colour and complexity.
“Gospel Green Rosé is the finest bottle fermented ‘cyder’ in the UK. A very small addition of Pinot Noir is added to the top quality English apple juice and then it is fermented to make an elite fizz. This is one of our country’s greatest drinks!” Matthew Jukes, Daily Mail
PLUS Chocolates & A Red Rose
We’ve added ‘The Chocolatier’ chocolates and a silk red rose to this 4 bottle case, as well as to any purchase of single bottles of the Gospel Green rosé and Cidentro rosé – prices from £35 to £55, including UK mainland delivery.
BANG ON TREND
Delicious… easy to get hold of on-line… sustainable… authentic… artisan and representing excellent value for money.
Here at Cider is Wine, we’re asking drinkers – and wine drinkers in particular – to take a new look at cider and to put aside bad memories of early youth to discover what are sophisticated, elegant and delicious drinks with a rightful place alongside wine.
All our ciders reflect the growing interest consumers have in quality and authenticity and the general move to drinking less, but better – very much part of the move to healthier living.
We’re not forgetting our health, either: on average these ciders contain about half the alcohol of most wines, as well as being gluten free and, in the vast majority of cases, vegetarian and vegan friendly.
IT’S TIME TO THINK DIFFERENTLY – AND DRINK DIFFERENTLY!
The majority of British ciders contain only 35% juice – we can do a lot better.
“So what’s in the other 65%?” is a question we’re usually asked when people realise that the legal definition of cider here in the UK is an alcoholic drink made from 35% apple or pear juice, all of which can be from concentrate (fancy a ‘British’ cider made from apple concentrate from China?). Yet the definition for wine made from grapes is that it has to be made exclusively from 100% grape juice and no concentrate.
We want to reshape perceptions of cider as a cheap, somewhat lowbrow drink and show your readers that cider made like wine – from 100%, not from-concentrate apple or pear juice ¬– can be just as delicious and rewarding as great wine.
Like wine, cider can a reflection of locality (what winemakers call ’terroir’), the apple (or pear) varieties used, and the skill of the cidermaker.
What’s more most of our ciders contain around half the alcohol of wine – indeed, as little as 4% – and all are gluten free and the vast majority are vegetarian and vegan friendly.
THE ESPRESSO ANALOGY
We like to make the comparison with coffee: over the last few decades its image has undergone a huge transformation from the early chicory-based ‘Camp Coffee’ and the anonymous hot drink in American diners to it being drunk and truly appreciated by people all over the world.
All coffee lovers have a preference for properly-made espresso and freshly ground, well-sourced coffee beans. We want to bring this attitude to cider: you wouldn’t drink instant coffee if you could have an Italian-style cappuccino, so why not try the premium cider equivalent?
KNOW WHAT’S IN YOUR CIDER
Cider Is Wine is a quality mark, and the Cider Is Wine hologram that you’ll find on alliance member bottles is a guarantee that the ciders have been made exclusively from 100% apple juice (pear juice, too).
Our ciders run through the whole taste profile, from the driest of the dry to the sweetest of the sweet, and every point in between, and are the opposite of the taste of mass market ciders – indeed, there are said to be 60,000 apple varieties as against ‘just’ 10,000 grape varieties – and they come with the ability to surprise and delight.
Each of our members’ ciders epitomise the Cider Is Wine approach and I’d be more than happy to send samples, confident that they will indeed surprise and delight.
