Researching trends across popular back to school essentials over the last year, price comparison site, idealo.co.uk has found that depending on the month, parents could save hundreds of pounds collectively. idealo discovered that it’s not always financially viable to buy everything just before term time and that being strategic could ensure a high percentage saving.
The table below highlights the best month’s consumers should consider shopping for popular back to school products, revealing the percentage difference and saving.
For example, those looking to buy a tablet for their children should wait until November, as the prices last year dropped by up to 13% and products such as calculators and headphones are best purchasing after the term starts.

Looking closely at the average cost of these popular products, idealo’s data predicts the trends for 2021, with the following product categories evidently being cheaper before and after the term starts.
For more chances of saving money, the following four tips can also benefit shoppers:
1. Keep an eye out for shopping events such as Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day as you may find some special one-off deals on certain items.
