Cornware 100% biodegradable tableware not only offers a low cost earth-friendly solution at high quality and finish, it offers fashionable choices in vibrant urban colours and brings chicness to the mundane disposable tableware market.
Cornware products are made from a renewable sources of material – origo (a starch based bio-plastic made of corn and yam), that will biodegrade and not be a burden on society. It is made from up to 70% of corn and yam starch and 30% – pp (polypropylene) pallets for water proofing and heat resistance qualities. PP is assimilated with the corn and yam starch and will therefore fully biodegrade in the right environment within 90 days.
Eco-friendly biodegradable tableware
Cornware biodegradability meets industry certification including OK Biobased by Vincotte and ASTM D6400 and D6866. Using products such as Cornware’s tableware can dramatically reduce the production of fossil-fuel based plastics while reducing plastic waste. According to Dr Sam Chapman, CEO of En-Count, “With fewer than 30% of the carbon footprint of polystyrene, Cornware products has large potential benefits to the environment.”
The process of making cornware is 72% more carbon efficient than traditional plastics, such polystyrene. Cornware 100% biodegradable tableware produces 3.5 times less carbon than polystyrene. Polystyrene has 3.6 times the impact of Origo. A company could use 3 times the number of Cornware products as opposed to equivalent plastic products and still have a smaller carbon footprint.
Cornware disposable is a simple sustainable solution as it need not be:
-recycled and hence eliminating the chance of landing in the wrong recycling bin and facility (note: most recyclable foodware becomes contaminated onces it has food scrapping)
-sent to special composting facilities which are not common and or land in the wrong type of composting facility which is unable to separate the plastic fragments from the other materials components hence contaminating the environment;
Cornware tableware can instead be disposed off as eco-friendly food waste to biodegrade under the right environment within 120 days.
When micro-organism ingests and digests the starch aspect of the product, the polypropylene (PP) content in origo that is assimilated with the corn is fully broken down into compost after 90 days even if it lands in the landfill and produces a non-toxic humus waste that can be used as fertilizers.
